When we start comparing ourselves to others, where are our eyes focused? Certainly not on God. We are too busy looking at her cute kids, her handsome husband, her amazing relationship with God, and beautiful house. Oh, and did you see her shoes???
Does your life look like hers? Does she have things that you lack? Do 'if only's' flood your mind, making you wonder what you could do differently so that you could "fix" your life, to look more like hers?
It has been said, "Comparison is the death of joy." I believe that comparison steals our joy because it consumes us and clouds our view of Jesus. Often we get so distracted by comparing ourselves to others that we forget that God made ALL of us in His image. We were put on this earth to serve God and fullfill His will and maybe it has less to do with our happiness and more to do with the will of God in our lives.
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." - Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Sisters, we are His masterpiece not our own, not this world's, but His. We can trust Him because He wants good things for us.
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory." Romans 8:28-30 (NLT)
So let's slow down, live simply to love Jesus, and embrace the life that He has chosen for us.
"Distractions must be conquered or they will conquer us. So let us cultivate simplicity; let us want fewer things; let us walk in the Spirit; let us fill our minds with the Word of God and our hearts with praise. In that way we can live in peace even in such a distraught world as this. 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.'" - A.W. Tozer
Because of Him,
