Last month, we studied the first chapter of Esther, where we learned about King Ahasuerus and how he made an example out of Queen Vashti which led to him to eventually banishing her from the kingdom. We also learned about a woman named Esther who would be thrown into this crazy, and seemingly hopeless situation, BUT GOD had a plan.
Today as we look at Esther chapter 2, we will see how God blesses Esther even though her situation seems hopeless. We will see the hand of God as...
Welcome to A Love Story, a Bible Study of the Gospel of John. Join us as we dive into this wonderful book and learn more about Jesus. If you want to start at the beginning of the study go here.
Recently I have been thinking about bread, not just bread, (although I do love me some bread) but more specifically the different places in the Bible that bread is mentioned…
What the Bible Says...
In Sunday school we have been teaching the kids about the Children of Israel and about Manna; the bread from heaven that God provided for them, how even in the desert God always provides what we need.
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. Exodus 16:4
In studying the book of John we saw Jesus provide bread and fish for those around Him, once again taking care of the needs of the people He loves.
And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. John 6:11
Today is Good Friday and this morning I woke up thinking about this passage…
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, “Take this and eat it. This is my body.” Matthew 26:26
Once again God is providing for His children, but this time He is providing much more than just bread to survive physically, He is providing a way for us all to live with Him for all eternity in heaven.
It says in John 6 that He literally became the Bread of Life for us… (this is the first of Jesus' I AM statements we will study throughout the book.)
For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
Jesus made the choice to come and live on this earth and die for our sins, now it is our turn to make a choice. Just as a side note- eating of the bread in communion will not save us, but only our belief and faith in Jesus. (see verse 35)
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to provide a way for us to be saved and spend eternity with Him in heaven, and live loved while here on earth.
All we have to do is respond to Him, we have to believe and ask Him to live in our hearts and be Lord of our lives.
"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
Some of the people He was talking to in this passage did not believe…
64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
Now the question is… If you have not accepted Christ into your heart and life, will you believe that Jesus loves you more than you can ever imagine, will you seek Him today? (click here if the answer is yes)
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email.
Now if you are already a disciple of Christ will you continue to believe, and walk with Him?
I know that I will because I agree with Simon Peter…
67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
