Just joining us? Welcome! Go here to start at the beginning of Galatians.
Today we are going to learn about Peter. I feel such a kinship with him, by nature I am a people- pleaser, I detest conflict and really don't like confrontation. Why? Because it's scary if you are not trusting in God and are depending on other people to give you value or worth.
I was only set free from the anxiety, and fear when I realized that I can trust Jesus fully, and that He loves me greatly. (and by set free I mean not letting it rule my decisions, I think it will always be my nature and I just have to choose the path of freedom, and trust in God's love.)
Back to Galatians 2...
Sometimes it's just easier to go along with the crowd and fit in, then to stand our ground about what we believe. Ya know that invisible boat, the one we are afraid to rock. Peter was afraid of the Jewish group from Jerusalem, he didn't want to upset anyone, he didn't want anyone upset with him, if only it was possible to live that way, to keep everyone happy.
“You can please some of the people some of the time all of the people some of the time some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”
― Abraham Lincoln
But we were put here on earth to serve God, not man so we need to hold fast to the truth, and worry about what God thinks not men. Because when we try so hard to fit in with everyone we can easily become very hypocritical.
14 I saw what they were doing. It was not in line with the truth of the good news. So I spoke to Peter in front of them all. “You are a Jew,” I said. “But you live like one who is not. So why do you force non-Jews to follow Jewish ways?” We are Jews by birth. We are not “non-Jewish sinners.”
We are saved by grace alone.
We can not be saved by obeying the law, only be believing in Jesus. The law was meant to show us we need a savior- not to save us, because if the law could of saved us then Christ died in vain.
We can't earn God's favor, not by quiet time, going to church or doing the right thing or refusing to do the wrong. It is all JESUS!
Now does that mean we should just throw our hands up and say " Well in that case, I might as well live it up!" and make all kinds of sinful choices?
No. Why? Because as I once heard, "Sin isn't bad because it is sin, it's sin because it is bad." Sin puts distance between us and God, and will eventually hurt us and this is not what God desires, He desire a close relationship with us. He wants what is best for us, He has a great plan. He loves us.
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
Because of Him,
I really feel like I rambled on and on in this post, hope that it makes sense and that it blesses you.
