A story about someone who loves you to the ends of the earth and back, that wants to spend forever and ever with you? (And by the way, He died so that He could have the opportunity to do that)
Have you figured out who He is yet?
That’s right, His name is the name above all names… Jesus.
His story is found in the book of John, and as we journey through the book, John the disciple who Jesus loved will share with us all about his friend and Messiah.
He was loved by Jesus, just like you and I are loved by Jesus.
But a little about John…
John was a fisherman by trade. When Jesus called Peter and John…
‘Peter was casting his net for he would become an evangelist who would bring so many people into the kingdom that three thousand-plus were saved the first time he preached. (Acts 2:41) John, however, was mending his nets when called by Jesus, for his ministry would be one of restoring relationships and knitting people together in love.’ (from Jon Courson's Application Commentary)
John had to learn to love like Jesus, just like you and I do. I don’t know about you, but this is very encouraging—we don’t have to be perfect to come to Jesus, we just have to come and He will change us from the inside out.
Here is a little about the book itself…
In Exodus (I know, I know I said the book of John, stick with me for a minute) Moses asks God what His name is, and God declares that His name is I AM that I AM.
Ya gotta wonder if Moses thought “You are… what?”
In the book of John we will get to see Jesus answer the question.
I AM the Bread of Life
I AM the Good Shepherd
I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life
I AM the Resurrection
I AM the Vine
I AM the Door
Let’s dig into this wonderful book of the Bible and get to know Jesus. Maybe you have already met Him and want to learn more about Him, or maybe you have never met Him, and if that is the case I hope you will allow me to introduce you to Him, because as I said at the beginning He loves you.
