What the Bible Says...
“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
The only reason that a person can be judged is if they refuse to believe in God’s Son—Jesus, it may sound harsh, but it is the truth, but have no fear because it isn’t the end of the story.
To be saved from judgment all we have to do is believe, and choose Jesus—the Light of the world.
And for those of us who believe there is NO condemnation, just love and forgiveness and the privilege to be a child of God.
In the next section we are going to meet a man named John the Baptist, he believed in the Light of the world and lived his life serving Him.
I love that it says John baptized in Aenon near Salim because there was much water there, sometimes we over think things when really all we have to do is take a step of faith in the direction God is calling us in, just like John— God was calling him to baptize people so he went to where the water was and God used him to speak the truth.
Sometimes we just have to move our feet in the direction that we believe God is calling us and then He will open the next door, or show us the next step.
The disciples of John were comparing the amount of people that were going to Jesus to get baptized, and those that were coming to John the Baptist. They were missing the point, just like when we start to compare ourselves with others, we miss what God wants to do in our lives.
God has called all of us to obey Him, and love others not compare ourselves to each other.
We have to keep our eyes on Jesus and spend our time lifting each other up with encouragement and prayer.
"Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!" Philippians 4:1
We are all called to do things for God’s kingdom not our own, John says it best-
27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
God must increase, and we must decrease… it isn’t about us, it is about God and bringing others to Him.
Jesus was the bridegroom that John was speaking of, and we are His church the bride. John was a friend of Jesus and rejoiced in hearing His voice and in seeing the work of Jesus being done, his joy was fulfilled.
This is what we are called to, we are called to further the kingdom together, rejoice when the work of God is done... that’s why there is no room for comparison, or competition.
So to sum up chapter 3, we are to...
*Step out in faith
*Encourage each other to find our hope in Christ, stop all the comparing
*Know that we are loved by God and if we accept Him as our Savior we will not be condemned but forgiven
1. We are to point others to Jesus because-
“He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else. 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands.
We are called to spread this message…
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
2. Memorize this verse to encourage others and to remind ourselves of our purpose.
