If you are just joining us, WELCOME! (click here to start at the beginning of the Galatians study.)
So let's get going...
A little review on the beginning of Galatians 3-
We are saved by the grace of God and by the blood of Jesus, our role is to believe just like Abraham believed. Abraham was a man of faith, but by no means was he perfect or without doubts. But God is faithful and always keeps his promises.
Alright, on to Galatians 3:10-29-
13 Christ set us free from the curse of the law. He did it by becoming a curse for us. It is written, “Everyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse.” (Deuteronomy 21:23) 14 Christ Jesus set us free so that the blessing given to Abraham would come to non-Jews through Christ. He did it so that we might receive the promise of the Holy Spirit by believing in Christ.
He took our place, He suffered our punishment just so we could be with Him in eternity.
We have been set free!
17 Here is what I mean. The law came 430 years after the promise. But the law does not get rid of God’s covenant and promise. The covenant had already been made by God. So the law does not do away with the promise.
18 The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on a promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise.
“In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
I love that it says " because you have obeyed My voice." Now we know we are not saved by our works or obedience, but God still uses us to further His kingdom, when we are willing to obey His voice.
Are we going to obey God's voice like Abraham?
We have been set free, now what?
Now it is time to share this amazing truth with others.. God wants us to be the message givers, love sharers, He wants to speak to us through His word and give us words to encourage, love others and bring them closer to Him.
21 So is the law opposed to God’s promises? Certainly not! What if a law had been given that could give life? Then people could become right with God by obeying the law. 22 But Scripture announces that the whole world is a prisoner because of sin. It does so in order that what was promised might be given to those who believe. The promise comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
23 Before faith in Christ came, we were held prisoners by the law. We were locked up until faith was made known. 24 So the law was put in charge until Christ came. He came so that we might be made right with God by believing in Christ.
You are all children of God by believing in Christ Jesus. 27 All of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ as if he were your clothes. 28 There is no Jew or Greek. There is no slave or free person. There is no male or female. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are all one. 29 You who belong to Christ are Abraham’s seed. You will receive what God has promised.
As I have been writing this morning I have been humming the song "Free" by Ginny Owens.
Here are some of the lyrics..
"Fear of coming out of my shell
Too many things I can't do too well
Afraid I'll try real hard and I'll fail
This is how it's been
'Til the day You pounded
On my heart's door
And You shouted joyfully
"You're not a slave anymore"
You're free to dance
Forget about your two left feet
And you're free to sing
Even joyful noise is music to me
And you're free to love
'Cause I've given you my love
And it's made you free
I have set you free
Because of Him,
