Just joining us? Welcome! Go here to start at the beginning of Galatians.
We made it to the end of Galatians, won't you join me in doing the happy dance?!
Okay, let's see what Paul has to say...
It seems to me that we all fall into one category or the other... we either show love and grace to a fault, or we speak the truth in a not so loving way. Finding a balance can be a challenge especially when emotions are running high, often we just want to shake the person into repenting or we are so afraid of confrontation, or that we are going to judge them falsely that we just let them continue in their sin.
What is really hard is when we do speak the truth in love and they refuse to change or will hardly even talk about it. It can be heart breaking and at that point all we can do is pray and be careful that we are not pulled into their sin.
2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load.
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39
We are called to love, now I need to point out that in the above verse it says we are to bear one another's burdens, but then if says we are all to bear our own load... the first part in verse 2 is referring to something similar to a soldier taking direct hit to the chest, and verse 5 refers to a soldier carrying his or her own pack. So when someone is under major attack or experiencing a day that is just beating them up, we are to stand with them and support them.
But it is also a good reminder that we need to use wisdom and be careful that we aren't always looking for someone to carry our regular load, let's pray that we have the wisdom to know when to ask for help and when to pull up our boot straps and carry our own load with the strength of Christ.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
We have all heard it said " You reap what you sow." it is something you tell people who are enduring the consequences of their sin or bad choices, it has a negative spin. But the positive side is that we can also sow to the Spirit by doing what we are doing now, studying God's Word.
What does Jesus say to His disciples about His Word...
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
Jesus said it, God's Word is life, it is the only way we are going to make it through this life.
So let's tape Bible verses to our bathroom mirror, kitchen wall and dashboard of our car, at our desk at work, wherever we will see it.
If you are like me I have to surround myself with God's Word, because I know that if I am not in the word than I am not in any frame of mind to do good or speak truth to other people, usually I am down right grumpy and selfish.
But if we stay in the word if we will not lose heart while doing good, while doing what God has called us to do, and if we sow to the Spirit, and fill our mind with things of God, not the garbage of this world we will reap everlasting life.
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. 17 From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
I struggle with pride just like the legalists, when I do what is right my pride wants to boast about it, but let's never forget that we are all sinners saved by God's amazing grace, that is the only thing we should boast about, because even if we fill our minds with God's word and go to church on Sunday we are still going to sin. it's ALL grace.
So let's end this study of Galatians remembering that above all it is grace, it is the blood of Jesus that saves us not anything we can do on our own, and that is the reason we seek to spend time with God, and read His Word and give thanks and praise to Him for choosing to send His Son to die for our sin.
Because of Him,
