us to follow Christ’s example and enables us to loosen our grip on our plans for our lives,
placing ourselves squarely under God’s loving rule each day.”
- Disciplines of a Godly Woman, by Barbara Hughes
As children of God, we can have confidence in the fact that we are loved by God, and this should carry over into every aspect of our lives. If we are confident in His love we should have absolute trust in Him as we live our lives.
This is hard.
I think that is why we need to put ourselves under God’s authority on a daily basis. We as humans like to run the show, we have a plan and like to be in control, we have our life planned out in our head, and our pride tells us we got this, and we only cry out to God when we get to the end of our rope.
We need to loosen our grip on our plans and lay them daily at the feet of Jesus, we need to come daily and worship our King, and realize we can trust Him.
When I read this book, God showed me that my trust was based on believing that God would fulfill my dreams in His time, I knew what I wanted and was just waiting for God to make it happen,
He loves me so He will give me what I want, right?? Wow, did I sound like a total spoiled brat or what?
Then I was asked this question “What if the things that you want never actually happen?”
Would I still trust God if my dreams and plans didn’t come true??
I had an entire sleepless night filled with me crying and begging and God asking me if I trust Him. In the end I had to surrender and since then I have been filled with contentment, do I doubt some days, of course. But I know that God has a beautiful plan, even if it doesn’t look anything like mine.
And what’s funny is that after that night my eyes were opened to how many of my heart’s desires were already being fulfilled, just not in the way I had planned. I can almost hear God chuckling at my silliness, saying “See I know what your heart needs better than you do.”
I had just spent so many years stuck focused on waiting to get my way, that I had missed the wonderful things God had already done in my life.
It gives a whole new meaning to this...
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your OWN understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
I think we have all heard that verse so many times that it has lost it's impact a little, so let's really meditate on it and let it sink into not just our heads but our hearts as well.
