Sometimes life is not all sparkly and twinkly, sometimes it is hard, and mundane and exhausting.
I have been thinking about all of this lately because my life is so different than it used to be, and it is hard and mundane, and exhausting, and sometimes Christmas just feels like one more thing to add to the list of things to do, instead of a celebration of Christ. (And after seeing various Facebook status’ I have a feeling I am not the only one that is feeling this way.)
So what’s a girl supposed to do??
How do we find our Christmas or any other time of year joy?
Well, as I have been living through this, and praying about it here is what has come to mind, and what has helped me the most…
1. Focus on Jesus- Remember the real reason for the season, we need to receive our King and make room in our everyday for Him to give us joy. Give whatever you are stressing over to Him, He can handle it.
2. Turn up the volume- crank up the volume on the Christmas music, or any other music that you love. (Oh, and having a little dance party in your living room helps too.)
3. Give yourself permission to do less- maybe this means we buy less in the gift department, or maybe it means just put up a few decorations or as the Nester puts it- “UnDecorate”, some years it just needs to be kept simple and not so crazy that it stresses us out, or causes us to start comparing our lives with others. (Because we all know that comparison never leads anywhere good) I think it all comes back to the first one on this list… keep Jesus the reason for your season.
4. Take care of yourself-
Eat right, ya know, something besides Christmas cookies and fudge ;)
Exercise (yes, a dance party with the kids counts),
Find a few minutes of 'you time' every day. This last one is tough, but important enough to figure out how to make it happen, so whether it's for ten minutes in the morning or late at night...just do it!
Here is a song for you, use it to have a dance party or listen to it by yourself during your ten minutes of you time.
