Last week I featured an update on the Spencer Family in Greece so I thought it was only fair to tell you all about the rest of the Athens team. They are the Suzie and Frank Gonzalez and here is an excerpt from their blog..
"Our history together starts with my, (Frank’s) history. I was saved in 1990 and began serving the Lord in pastoral ministry in a variety of ways in 1995. Since that time I became stirred for missions and more serious pastoral training. In 1998 I began the School of Ministry through Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. My life on the mission field began in Poland back in the summer of 1999. I went on a short term mission trip with the School of Ministry. We did an eight day outreach in Lublin, in support of the work that Kurt and Kendall Kula were serving in. During that trip I began to sense a calling to serve in Poland on a permanent basis. The following summer I returned and stayed for a month. It was during that time that I became convinced of Gods calling upon my life to serve on the foreign field as a pastor and missionary.
As I began to pray and prepare for the Lords timing I met my wife Suzie and was married a year later. Although at the time I felt ready to go God made it apparent that I was not. Instead He sent my wife and I to Calvary Chapel South Bay in Gardena California where I served as the Junior High Pastor for almost three years. I had previously served at this same church as a youth pastor for about 5 years, before meeting my wife. God used the time between 2002- 2004 at CC South Bay to teach Suzie and I how to serve together in ministry as well as build up our marriage to a place where it would be able to endure the trials of serving on the foreign field.
In November 2004 we finally made it to Radom, Poland where we assisted in the church planting efforts with our good friends the Kulas. In March of 2007 Suzie and I ventured out from Radom to the city of Olsztyn with the intentions of planting a new church, but that is not what the Lord had in mind. After a year and half of teaching a home Bible study, discipling a hand full of young believers and teach men that wanted to learn how to study and teach the Bible God moved us on from Poland. The Lord moved us to Italy to begin serving at the new Bible college in Montebelluna.
Before moving there Suzie underwent a series of foot surgeries in the States which took most of 2009. In that time the Lord had closed the door for us to get our visas for Italy. Having a return ticket to Italy we used them and went in faith on tourist visas to see what God would do and if He would indeed open the door for us to stay long term. While there I taught at the Bible college and Suzie helped in discipleship. But the Lord had made it evident in time that this was not the place He was keeping us.We found ourselves again asking the Lord where He wanted us both sensing in our hearts that the next place would be a place to plow for a long time.
Through much prayer His answer came -He was calling us to plant Calvary Chapel churches in Greece. Before going there however, He had first given us an interim location in the country of Hungary where we prepared for the move to Greece and rendezvoused with our team. We moved to Greece in February of 2011. Currently we are co-laboring with other ministries that are here, and planting a Calvary Chapel in Athens.
We are supported and sent through CC Costa Mesa, CC South Bay & CC Newport Coast LightHouse. Our team is Travis & Kristin Spencer and their two daughters Ksena and Kati who are also supported and sent through CC Costa Mesa."
How exciting, and challenging to be able to go and plant churches in a whole different country and culture.
Let's keep them in prayer this week.. go here for a list of prayer requests, God Bless and have a great week!
