In case you don't know the story; Elijah calls out the prophets of Baal the false god and tells them that they will both build altars and they can pray to Baal and he will pray to the one true and living God. To make a long story short the prophets tried everything and nothing happened (of course because we all know that Baal is not a living god) so Elijah builds his altar, and not only does he build it , he pours 12 pots of water all over it and even goes so far as to dig a ditch around it and fill it with water... because he knew that God could start a fire on that altar no matter what. So Elijah prays and fire comes down out of heaven and sets the altar on fire, causing the prophets of Baal to fall down and proclaim “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!” ( 1 Kings 18 )
Elijah had faith in God, he knew that with man nothing is possible, but God all things are possible, you notice that Elijah didn't try and light it himself, he prayed and asked God to to do it, how often do we try and do good things in our own power? We need to remember that first we need to pray and allow God to do the work He would do; not the work we think He wants to do.
The work God wants to do always points people to Him, how are we pointing people to Jesus? Do we have faith like Elijah trusting God in every circumstance, being a witness for Christ that causes people to see God work in our lives so that they want to know God?
We need to remember that this world is watching us, and we are sometimes the only true representation of Jesus that they will ever see, so let's trust God and share God and love others.
I once heard it said that when asked "How are you?" when you are having a horrible day instead of whining and complaining to just say "God is good!" because truly we always have hope because God is good all the time.
(Just as a side note I am not saying we shouldn't be honest with people. Because being real can also be a wonderful witness, but I know sometimes I get wrapped up in my own issues and get a bad attitude... which does not need to be shared with anyone.)
So today let's remember that with God ALL things are possible no matter the circumstances we are in, let's have faith and grab hold of God and grab hold of the brave that will come along with it.
Brave in Him,
